About this lab
Give two robots their own start position, velocity and acceleration and see when their paths cross — once, twice or never.
Ideas covered: simultaneous motion, quadratic equation, intercept.
Common questions
- Can two objects meet twice?
- Yes. With different accelerations the gap between them is a quadratic in time, which can be zero twice: one catches up, passes, then is passed back.
